How Important is Employee Retention? How Important is Employee Satisfaction? Are you investing in your employees?

Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to present information about Authentica and the career and professional development coaching services I offer to individuals and businesses. Today, I researched the current workforce dynamics, and the emphasis companies place on career and professional growth. I came across an article written by Clear Company in 2021, and the statistics I found were quite striking.

Whether you are an employee, a manager, a leader, or a business owner, I urge you to read on.

The significance of investing in employees' careers cannot be understated, as 94% of respondents indicated they would stay longer at a company that supports their career growth. However, only 29% of organizations have a clear training and development plan for their employees. Shockingly, 34% of employees cited a lack of career development opportunities as a motivation to leave their previous positions. Moreover, for those working with or hiring talent from the millennial and Gen Z population, it is vital to recognize that 87% of millennials consider professional growth and career development highly significant.

Overall, a staggering 76% of employees are actively seeking opportunities to advance their careers.

Let’s delve deeper into the importance of employee retention:

  • Employees who have access to professional development opportunities are 15%more engaged, resulting in 34% higher retention rates among organizations that prioritize employee development.
  • An overwhelming 58% of employees state that professional development directly contributes to their job satisfaction, which significantly influences their decision to stay with a company.

As you read this, whether you lead people or own a business, consider that a substantial percentage of your employees are seeking professional development training and coaching.

Recently, I had a conversation with an individual who was promoted to a management position, responsible for leading a team. To my surprise, she had not received any management training.

This issue is more widespread than one might imagine, with 41% of managers overseeing three to five employees admitting to having received no training, and 59% of managers overseeing one to two employees sharing the same experience.

If you are a business owner or a manager/leader, these statistics should give you pause.

Effective training and coaching for those managing others are crucial to ensuring their ability to excel in their roles and reduce stress while leading their teams.

In summary, coaching, training, and development are essential for managers, department heads, and even some executives. An impressive 91% of employees desire personalized, relevant training.

This is where career and professional development coaching can truly make a difference. Coaching is personalized, focusing on the individual or group and creating an environment that encourages active listening, creativity, and practical and achievable goal setting. Professional development coaching transcends mere online courses or standard training; rather it emphasizes engagement, collaboration, and continuous learning.
